I started my career in the ICT sector when I joined NASPERS before moving to MNET. With the acquisition of one of the first GSM licences in South Africa, I joined MTN at start-up and held different roles in the organisation varying from heading up the programme office consisting of business analysis, project management, data analysis and training. Progressing to Head of Customer Experience and at the forefront of the impact of the digital world, I proceeded into heading up the product and digital team at MTN SA. After a tenure of two years as the General Manager: Product and Digital, I was seconded to the MTN Group for starting up a joint venture, aYo, between MTN Group and MMI Holdings implementing a telco-insurance product (life and health insurance) across the MTN operations in Africa. At aYo I held the role of Group Executive: People, Projects and Operations.
With a passion for business transformation, people, knowledge management and behavioural change management, I focused on business performance improvement and operating model optimisation. The outcomes of my corporate role aimed to deliver consistent, customer relevance across all digital touch points, to empower customers through convenient and effective self-service, to drive growth through personalised digital offerings and to strengthen brand association between the organisation and digital consulting. Through a deeper understanding of the digital and adjacent ecosystems, I championed transformation to digital of the traditional telco model and the need for collaboration in order to see the growth of network traffic and increased revenues.
During the last few years while working in industry, I remained actively involved in developing young leaders in the community and promoted leadership skills through seminars, coaching and mentoring. My passion for and active involvement in the academic world during this period included study leader of Masters and MBA students, external examiner and moderator for multiple universities and business schools, and membership of conference programme and journal review boards.
Throughout my career in industry, I have been a facilitator, learner, knowledge sharer, coach and mentor. I recently joined academia on a full time basis and currently holds an Associate Professor position at the University of Pretoria in the Department of Informatics in the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology.
I thoroughly enjoy the craftsmanship of writing and have published several papers and book chapters in the knowledge management, enterprise architecture and IT outsourcing fields.
